Remember, you can claim land with a golden shovel to prevent griefing. You simply define the diagonal by selecting blocks with rightclicking. There are videos I might put one up here.

Set a home with an optional name at the position you’re standing. If you want to use multiple homes, you have to name them. - /home [name]
Teleport to home with name [name] or the default home if [name] is not given. - /tpa <friend>
Ask a friend if you may teleport to them. They can accept or deny your teleport request. - /tpahere <friend>
Ask a friend if they want to teleport to you. - /back
Teleport yourself to where you last died.
